The Paul Ramsay Foundation, Australia’s largest philanthropic organization, today announced the addition of former New Zealand Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Sir Simon William (Bill) English KNZM to its board of directors.

A former farmer and public servant, Sir Bill served as New Zealand’s 39th Prime Minister, from 2016-2017. He resigned from parliament in 2018. Currently, Sir Bill serves on several boards including Wesfarmers.

Foundation board Chair Michael Traill AM said that the appointment was an exciting one as it signals the evolution of the Foundation, as it undertakes more work in shaping policy in Australia.

“Bill has an outstanding reputation for bringing practical and workable perspectives to evidence-based policy making,” Mr Traill said.“As the Foundation grows and its strategy evolves, it became evident that we needed someone with Bill’s expertise on the board to help guide us. I’m thrilled he’s decided to join us and look forward to working together.”

Sir Bill echoed these sentiments and said that he was excited to be joining the Paul Ramsay Foundation, being a firm advocate for philanthropy and having watched its progress in recent years.“

The power of philanthropy to have immense impact on social issue areas, and to leverage and explore different funding models for social good can’t be underestimated,” Sir Bill said.

“I’m excited to join Michael and the team for this next phase of the Foundation’s journey.”

Sir Bill joins the board in March 2022.
