Paul Joseph Ramsay AO 1936-2014
Paul Ramsay was a leading Australian businessman. After starting out as a land surveyor in Bowral, NSW, Paul established a private psychiatric clinic in Sydney in 1964. From this beginning, Ramsay Health Care continued to grow through the 1970s and 80s, building and acquiring hospitals across Australia, the USA, the UK
In 1997, Ramsay Health Care successfully floated on the Australian Stock Exchange. It is now one of the world’s largest private hospital operators, with 480 facilities across 11 countries. It employs more than 77,000 staff, treats over eight million patients each year, and is well respected in the healthcare industry for operating
In addition to his influential role in healthcare, Paul was one of the initiators of regional television aggregation in Australia. He built stations across regional Australia, which today form the Prime Television Network which has a potential audience of more than 5.1 million people.
Throughout his career, Paul was a generous benefactor to a variety of educational, cultural, artistic and sporting

At the time of his death in 2014, Paul was the chairman and major shareholder of Ramsay Health Care Limited, Prime Media Group Limited and the Paul Ramsay Group.
